Fragrant, Aromatic, and Medicinal Plants (FAMP) are playing an increasingly important role in the agricultural and economic landscape of the Hautes-Alpes. Driven by climate change, which is reshaping the landscape of agricultural production, they represent an opportunity for diversification and value creation. In this context, the local Végét’Alpes network brings together farmers, harvesters, processors, and distributors around a shared goal: to organize and promote a sustainable industry.

Today, the PPAM sector benefits from a number of assets specific to the region: rich biodiversity, well-preserved soils and recognized agricultural know-how. A recent assessment of the sector highlights the significant development potential of Alpine plants, destined for the food, cosmetics and even perfume markets.

a common roadmap

To support this momentum, a joint roadmap has been established. It sets out the priorities: enhancing the quality and traceability of production, increasing local processing, improving marketing, strengthening export markets, and supporting research and development. The goal is clear: to make the Hautes-Alpes a leading region in the field of medicinal and aromatic plants.

The success of the industry relies on close cooperation between all the players involved. Local farmers and pickers, processing companies, research organizations and local authorities are just some of the partners involved. Together, they help create economic synergies that enhance the attractiveness of the département.
