The Briançon Centre for Contemporary Art is bursting with colour thanks to ‘Kaléidoscope’, an exhibition by the artist Fabienne Fine.
Just like the optical toy from which it takes its name, the exhibition plays on the interplay of colours and the proliferation of forms. Glowing orange, deep blues and flashes of turquoise interplay in abstract, gestural paintings, created through drips, splashes and layers. Each canvas invites the viewer to lose themselves in the texture, to seek out landscapes, reflections or movements within it, and then to reconstruct their own image.
The setting adds to the experience: the Centre d’Art Contemporain is housed in the former prisons of the Cité Vauban courthouse, a listed Historic Monument. Spread over three levels, bathed in natural light from the glass roofs, the artworks interact with the venue’s ancient stonework and metal structures.
A luminous interlude in the heart of winter, to be enjoyed between a stroll through the narrow streets of the Cité Vauban and a day on the slopes.
