The origins
The Festival de Chaillol was created in 1997 by pianist Michaël Dian. Born of a strong attachment to this mountain territory, the project was built around an original idea: to offer a musical itinerary in Alpine villages. From the outset, the festival has set itself apart by moving away from traditional concert halls to take over everyday venues such as churches, village squares and even forests.
Since 2019, the Espace Culturel de Chaillol has benefited from the designation of Scène conventionnée d’intérêt national, Art en territoire.

The spirit of the festival
The main aim of the festival is to make music accessible to all, especially in rural areas. The aim is to bring quality cultural offerings to places where they are usually less present, while creating a strong link between artists and local residents.

Programming
The Chaillol Festival offers a highly varied program. There are concerts of classical music, jazz, world music, contemporary creation and traditional music. Concerts are often held in atypical, intimate venues, bringing artists and audiences closer together. In addition to concerts, the festival also offers encounters, workshops and sometimes musical walks.

The artists
The festival welcomes artists of national and international renown, as well as emerging ensembles and musicians in residence. These artists come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, enriching the program. Combining established talent with new discoveries, the festival fosters artistic creation and exchange.

“… in our ever-renewed itinerancy, discovering a thousand wonderful corners in the folds of the landscape, music has sprung up, clear and lively as spring water. In its current, we refresh our days, quenching an unquenchable thirst for beauty, encounters and sharing…”.
