If flamboyant guitarist Gaëlle Solal has understood one thing above all else, it's that she needs to take a detour to get where she's going. Her close association with Brazilian musicians – in Rio and elsewhere – has given her the ease of Carioca rhythms.
From Choro to Maxixe, this selection of music, as nostalgic as it is intranquil, transports us to a corner of the world that continues to fascinate us because it never stops transforming. From the roots of the Brejeiro to the Concerto by the master of over a thousand opuses, Heitor Villa-Lobos, via the popular intuition of Chiquinha Gonzaga, Gaëlle Solal takes us all the way to the inspired celebration of the magical myth of the Saci, Rio's malign spirit, transformed by the voice of composer Clarice Assad into a concerto for the king instrument of this Brazil we have so long dreamed of hearing up close.
