In the Pays de la Meije, the Feast of the Virgin Mary is the patronal feast of La Grave and is dedicated to the high-mountain guides.

The festivities begin in the morning at the church square in La Grave with a large outdoor Mass and conclude on a cheerful note with a concert. This charming traditional ceremony allows the guides, dressed in period costumes, to have their ropes and ice axes blessed. Then the festivities are in full swing. It’s an opportunity to watch demonstrations on climbing, skiing, theater, and music, and to talk about the mountains in a friendly atmosphere.

PROGRAM:

10:00 a.m.: Laying of a wreath in memory of former guides in front of the La Grave Guides’ Office

10:30 a.m.: Traditional outdoor Mass in front of the Church of La Grave

12:00 p.m.: Aperitif hosted by the guides in front of the La Grave Guides’ Office, with live music!

After the aperitif, enjoy a picnic lunch at the arboretum (for a fee)

Followed by a festive afternoon at the arboretum featuring a raffle and performances.
