JEP – Guided tour of the fortifications, underground passage and 17th-century military buildings
As part of the European Heritage Days, you'll be discovering Mont-Dauphin, a fortified village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of Vauban's fortifications.
Throughout the year, the team takes you on a tour of this mountain stronghold.
The tour includes outdoor stops (ditches, fortifications) and visits to the interior of the old military buildings (lunette d'Arçon and its underground, arsenal, powder magazine, the roof of the Rochambeau barracks).
Unusual elements of Mont-Dauphin can be discovered during these guided tours such as the underground of the lunette d'Arçon, 113 meters long, which allowed the soldiers to discreetly reach this element of fortification essential to the defense of the site.
The fortified village of Mont-Dauphin is home to other treasures, such as the Philibert Delorme-style framework of the Rochambeau barracks, as well as a plan-relief of the fortress, nearly 4 meters in scale.
