CONCERT-READING

La Nuit

When the day fades, the night opens up an intimate space where dreams, confidences and flights of

the soul mingle. This concert-reading invites you on a sensitive and poetic journey, carried by the great pages of the

Romantic repertoire and the timeless voices of literature.

At the piano, Fanny Azzuro echoes the chiaroscuro of night through Chopin's Nocturnes and Funeral Sonata, the mysterious impulses of Schumann, the delicacy of Clara Schumann, the bewitching harmonies of Scriabin and the introspective depth of Brahms.

Brigitte Fossey lends her voice to the words of Novalis, Rimbaud, Hugo, Musset, Baudelaire, Valéry and Lamartine. Their poems, by turns contemplative, exalted or melancholy, illuminate the night in a thousand nuances. From reverie to passion, from silence to infinity, music and poetry converse in the same breath, revealing the night as a land of emotions, mystery and beauty.

Night is one of the strongest themes of Romanticism. This fascination with the night

is linked to our love of mystery and dreams. At night, the unreal visions that impose themselves on us make us forget all the evils of the day. Musset's series of Nuits attests to this.

Night can also be associated with a symbol of the decline of human life. In this case,

dusk represents the last gasps of existence. This is what Victor Hugo describes in

Soleils couchants. It is also this nostalgic beauty that Baudelaire makes us feel in his

poem Recueillement. Many 19th-century composers were interested in this theme of night,

notably Schumann and his Nachtstücke (nocturnal tales), Chopin and his funeral sonata and his

nocturnes, so melancholy, Clara Schumann and her Soirées musicales. A sparkling, touching nocturnal world
