Concert de musique sacrée Marc-Antoine Charpentier

Église Sainte CatherineAdd to my calendar

The Una Voce vocal ensemble and its soloists, conducted by Benoît Dumon, perform three masterpieces by Marc-Antoine Charpentier.

As part of its 2026 season, the Alpes Musique Sacrée association invites the public on a journey to the heart of the Grand Siècle with Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643–1704). A contemporary of Lully, Charpentier is one of the greatest composers of sacred music in the French Baroque period. His name remains less well known than his work, as the prelude to his Te Deum has become the Eurovision theme tune.

The Una Voce vocal ensemble and its soloists, conducted by Benoît Dumon, have chosen three pieces that showcase the full range of the composer’s artistry:

the Magnificat, a luminous and festive hymn of praise;

the Denial of Saint Peter, a ‘sacred story’ of striking drama, recounting the apostle’s threefold denial;

the Requiem, a contemplative meditation on mortality and peace.

This concert takes place in the Church of Sainte-Catherine, right in the heart of Briançon. It is a rare opportunity to hear this Baroque repertoire in a venue whose acoustics are perfectly suited to vocal polyphony.
