Who hasn’t heard of the Ensemble Clément Janequin, which, under the direction of countertenor Dominique Visse, quickly established itself as the definitive authority on the interpretation of Renaissance polyphonic song, breathing new life into this entire repertoire with the verve and vocal precision of the “Janequins.” In doing so, it masterfully honors that French spirit in the great tradition of Rabelais—at once indulgent and risqué, simple and sophisticated, funny and tragic. Polyphonic music to be enjoyed without moderation!
